Quick 'n' Dirty - how to make the links work
1) Download eMule
(Windows only) or aMule (Windows,
Linux, Mac) and install it.
2) Set up your browser to handle ed2k links (see above).
3) Find a file you'd like to check out in our database. Click the ed2k link.
4) If everything is set up correctly, your Mule will pop up and begin searching for sources.
5) Have patience - depending on availability, a short
video clip can take days, or a full-blown movie can be
there in mere hours.
6) If you've gotten the knack, you might change to a
more versatile program like an
eMule mod,
MLDonkey etc.
In Depth: Using p2p links
-
ed2k, sig2dat, magnet
The p2p link formats cannot be opened by your Web browser itself; you have
to make the browser refer it to the p2p application. In most cases,
you can do this via the GUI:
In Opera 7, choose 'File' or 'Tools' - 'Preferences' - 'Programs and Paths'.
Here, you enter the protocol name (e.g. 'ed2k') and make sure
that the activated link below is to your p2p program.
For Mozilla, use the extensions mozex or
tabbrowser(check
this for a German howto).
aMule for Linux and Opera 7/Mozilla/Konqueror: in English or
German.
mldonkey for Linux & Windows here
(ed2k, but should work with the other types the same way).
If everything is configured right, clicking a p2p link should bring up your
p2p program and start a download.
-
mxlinks
mxlinks work differently: You have to have the mxlinx program and
WinMX running. Simply clicking an mxlink will open a hash search, from which
you can pick your download if one is currently available.
-
Bittorrent
Linux: First you need to find a .torrent file. This contains information on
where to get the file data. Once you have downloaded this control file, you
can for example open the program btdownloadgui.py, then open this file with
it. If you have to close the program before the download is finished, you
can resume it only if you still have the control file; you reopen this file,
and save over the unfinished file.
Windows: Once BitTorrent is installed, just click on a torrent on a website
of your choice, and a download window will open.
