What to Post on indyPeer

Posting files: Things to be aware of.

COPYRIGHT:
When posting files, be aware that you might infringe upon someone's copyright. DO NOT post files whose copyright holder you know or reasonably suspect to disagree with public spreading of the information.
MOVIES:
(as opposed to movie clips or documentaries)
This is not a movie downloads page. While the occasional fictional or 'docu-drama' movie will appear here, please refrain from posting stuff like 'Mondays in the Sun' or Ken Loach movies. These people do a good job to earn their bucks, so go see the movie at the theater, or rent at your nearest BlockBuster. (What, they don't have the flick? Well, make them have it! :)
VERSIONS:
Of much content, especially short movie clips, different versions exist. Regarding which one to post, we have the following guidelines:
1st priority: Completeness.
The most complete material, regardless of format and quality, should generally be preferred. Of course, if a slightly cropped but much much better version is available, we'd normally go for the quality rather than the completeness.
2nd priorities: Quality and openness of format.
Quality means FPS, bitrate, resolution etc. We weigh this equal with openness of format - proprietary formats like Real, Microsoft Video or Quicktime prevent that the content can be used for parodies or other edits, which international law explicitly permits. Thus, MPEG or open AVI formats of watchable quality should always be preferred over WMA/WMV/ASF, RM/RA, MOV/QT. Especially Real or Windows media files which constitute possible security hazards (DRM/TCPA) should only be posted when no other version exists.
3rd priority: Size.
Smaller files means faster downloads. Especially with large movies, XviD, Ogg or DivX AVI is preferred over MPEG.
