How to Use indyPeerPurpose
indyPeer was created as there seemed to be a need for a site to catalogue the
plethora of political files that are available on peer2peer networks. In spite
of their availability, they were rather hard to find. Until Now ;)Everybody can contribute files, if they are legal (see Disclaimer), and if they are of informational interest (please, no home movies of your cat, unless you really think it furthers the good for mankind ;). Search
Provides a search form to find files that are catalogued on this site.Every field can be accessed by pressing <alt>+<highlighted letter> (provided your browser supports this) Title: searches within the titles of the files. Description: searches within the long descriptions (not the short ones that are seen in the file overview). Size: you can enter a raw byte number, or a value like 10M, which is recognized as ten megabyte. If you only provide the first value, all files as big or bigger than this value are found. If you only provide the second value, all files as big or smaller than this value are found. If you provide both values, all files within this range are found. Year: enter a four-digit year. Duration: durations can be entered either as seconds, or in the format hours:minutes:seconds. Language: Select a language from the list. Keyword: Select a keyword from the list. Media Type: Select a media type from the list. Search only within results: This is a rather powerful feature. Suppose you want to find all video files from the war in Iraq. First, search for Keyword=Iraq and Media Type=Video. Then search again within these results with Keyword=War. This way, you can narrow down the results step by step. When you have completed the Search form, press "Search", or just press <Return>. Browse
In addition to locating files using the Search form, you can try your luck by
browsing through the different topics accessible here. Nice to get a quick
overview over what's available, but the Search function is definitely better for
pinpointing individual files. This may change in the future.by Topic: Files are sorted by topic, such as "Terror", "Analysts" and so on. One file can appear under several topics. by Language: Files are sorted by language. by Filetype: Files are sorted by file type: video, audio, text, ... If your browser supports it (eg., Mozilla), you can jump to the next/previous page of longer file lists with Alt-N and Alt-P, respectively. Note on ed2k Availability
indyPeer provides numbers of file availability on the ed2k network right next
to the ed2k link. However, do not let yourself discourage if it shows no
availability. The availability (i hate this word ;) is checked at most once a
week, and some rare files will escape nevertheless. So this value is only to
give you a rough impression about the popularity of the file on the ed2k
network. Also, the availability tells nothing about completeness of the
file, so even a file with 1.000 peers could be a zombie.Color Coding: Green = Available, Orange = Not Available Right Now, Red = Never Seen. File Verification
The indyPeer editors want to make sure that all files in the database are
real, so even though everybody can enter a new file, only the editors can
and will verify them either if they have seen the file themselves or trust the
source.
Add New File
Everybody can add a new file to indyPeer. To do so, just enter "Add New File".
First, tell us what kind of file you want to index. Collections are archives,
for example .rar or .zip files, that contain several files in them. "Enter File
Dialog" opens a form where you can enter as much information as possible. The
only required fields are a p2p link (ed2k, bittorrent, ...) and a title.File Name: This name should describe the file very in a very short manner. Short Description: Will be displayed under the title, should be no longer than two short sentences. Description: Can be as long as you like, but be reasonable ;) Source: The source of the file, for example "TV" or "DVD" for videos. Language: The language(s) the file. Year: The year of production of the file's content. Size: Filesize in bytes. Duration: Only for video/audio. You can enter seconds, or you can use the format h:min:sec or min:sec. Frames/sec: Only for video. How many frames per second. Frame width/height: The dimensions of a video file. Video/Audio Codec: Codec of a file, for example "divx5" or "mp3". Video/Audio Bitrate: for example, "128k". Edonkey/... Link: Enter a link for the file you want to enter. You need only provide one link, be sure to enter it in the right network (Emule users, use Edonkey). After pressing "Commit File Data" at the bottom of the page, you can enter as much keywords as you like. Be aware that the editors of this page reserve the right to alter/delete content, to ensure the integrity of this site. |
